Simon is a Director at Catalyst and has over 15 years of commercial and M&A experience gained within industry and professional services.

Simon leads our Consumer sector team. He has a particular focus on the food & drink industry, building on the eight years he spent delivering M&A and strategic financial planning projects at United Biscuits prior to joining Catalyst.

His recent transactions include the management buy-outs of Westleigh Homes and Belfield Furnishings, and the sales of Steelite International to US-based PNC Riverarch Capital, Gardman to Rutland Partners, Sofa Brands International to a consortium of financial investors and Soreen to Samworth Brothers, plus the acquisition of Fabulous Bakin’ Boys by Netherlands-based Daelmans.

As well as being highly active on food & drink transactions, Simon is the author of The Grocer Fast 50, which identifies the 50 fastest-growing privately owned food and drink companies published annually in the sector's leading publication.

Simon also co-leads our presence in the East Midlands market with Justin Crowther, using his extensive connections with the region's food & drink sector businesses and intermediary base.

A chemical engineering graduate from Cambridge University, Simon joined United Biscuits and worked at a number of its food manufacturing sites in various financial roles before moving into a central M&A role. He joined Catalyst in 2007.

Simon retains a keen interest in rowing (he did not quite make it into the University boat) even though he has two young sons who seem to prefer rugby to the river.
